The president of the United States has recently ordered troops into our nation's capital and used the excuse "to stop crime."
Most of us know he is being hypocritical. He has also threatened other American cities (only blue states) with the same action.
Lawsuits have been filed and eventually may wind up in the U.S. Supreme Court. From a distance (most of us are), their decisions seem to lean into wealth (where they get their vacations) and a single powerful executive in charge, i.e. the president. Most of the supremes are "originalists," whose task is to read the minds of our founders and figure out what was meant when our Constitution's laws were written.
In a letter written by Thomas Jefferson to James Madison (two of our originals), he mentions two forms of government, one of force and one of freedom, and made this comment in Latin — "Malo periculosam, libertatem quam quietam servitutem" — which can be translated as "I prefer perilous liberty, to the quiet of servitude".
