Letter to the editor: NW 5th Street Plan Puts Student Safety At Risk

Posted

The NW 5th Street plan affects more than just residents in the surrounding area.  We have worked on this plan for 10 years, and yet the council will not consider dropping the NW 5th Street plan. Sidewalks on NW 7th Street, NW 5th Street, and the feeder streets between 5th & 7th  will be needed; another expense will be crossing lights. (Crossing guards from the school is not an option, as parents realized when Battle Ground schools had to eliminate that cost this year.)  This plan is dangerous for all pedestrians, especially students walking to and from school. There are other options to consider.

One option that has been recommended is to continue the roadway from BGHS to Lewisville, in/out to 503.  Number one should be students' safety.  Number two should be the cost.  This option would most likely cost less than the 5th Street/ 7th Street plan.
