Letter to the editor: Respect toward others is vanishing

Posted

Yesterday, my wife was putting on her mask while walking across the parking lot to Ace Hardware. A truck with a group of young “men” drove by. They were hooting, hollering, making derogatory COVID comments – ridiculing her for wearing a mask. I am under cancer treatment and immunocompromised. My body’s natural disease resistance is lowered, making it much easier for me to get sick. Not wanting to bring any “bugs” home to me, she exercises extra caution. There are other reasons for wearing a mask. Some have allergies. Some are troubled and energy depleted by smoke from fires or higher levels of air pollution. These young men demonstrated a lack of common courtesy and respect – somewhat typical of this plague that seems to be growing in our culture.
