Letter to the editor: Thoughts on our 250th birthday

Posted

It's not what we have accomplished in the last 250 years. It's how we are going to keep it going.

It will not happen by tearing it down. Rather, building on the far greater good that is the America experiment. If people are going to govern themselves, we need to be people who do the right thing (even when no one is looking), loving your neighbor, friends and family, adhering to the Golden Rule, believing in something bigger than yourself, individual and collective sacrifice, choosing fidelity to God; which consequence leads us to a Good Orderly  Direction.

Lastly, not assuming  the worst of your government, nor your Christian neighbor, or people in general.

America is still the greatest nation on God's green earth.

Love her and adhere to her founding principals. Be the men and women who got us this far.

“Bye, bye Miss American Pie” still serves as a warning against losing our innocence and optimism, bidding goodbye to simpler times, and the shift to darker turbulent political and cultural shifts ushered in the 60s.

We can do better to create a more perfect union. It will require unity, not conformity. Rather, cultivating the aims of the America promise. Not choosing our identities for ourselves, rather the identity each one of us are born with; we are created in the image of God. Therefore, all of us are children of God.

Rebelling against that truth and reality is what will perpetuate our further slide into becoming wholly irrelevant in history.

We ought to pray for America, whose story is still being written by the hand of the God who writes His own His-Story, in my ever so humble opinion.
