This week, FCC Chair Carr threatened to revoke television and radio broadcast licenses over their coverage of the Iran war. Using the power of government to intimidate or control news organizations pushes us closer to a media landscape where only propaganda is safe to air.
That should alarm every one of us. I’m angry. You might be too. But anger is only useful if it moves us toward action.
One of the most effective ways to push back is to support independent, rigorous, and unafraid journalism. If enough of us turn away from domestic broadcasters that prioritize political loyalty or entertainment over truth, perhaps they’ll rediscover their responsibility — and their backbone — to uphold truth, fairness, and the First Amendment.
If you’re ready to diversify your news diet, here are some consistently reliable international sources:
Reuters — Known for direct, fact‑driven reporting with minimal editorializing.
Associated Press (AP) — A foundational global news service with strong standards.
Agence France‑Presse (AFP) — Trusted for broad, international coverage.
BBC World News — Comprehensive reporting with global reach.
Al Jazeera English — In‑depth coverage of Middle Eastern, African, and global affairs.
France 24 — Strong international reporting with a European perspective.
