Letter to the editor: Time to move on from rants against Democrats

Posted

Ann Evans’s rant about everything Democratic (The Reflector, July 19) is another tired example of the ludicrous playbook of MAGA folks who still don’t seem to understand that moral character, honesty, accountability, self-awareness, humility and competence matters for everyone, especially POTUS. She offered, astonishingly, that the Democratic Party is the party of “hate, discrimination, lawlessness, inequality and lack of fairness.” She complained about the COVID mandate and medical response — “the unspeakable destruction — which, in the comfort of retrospect, was not smooth and, yes, vaccines were mandated. But it’s no coincidence that COVID deaths among Republicans were significantly higher than Democrats in multiple studies, some of which quoted 39%, 76% and 153% spreads. That’s mainly because Republicans were chanting the “Don’t Tread on Me” nonsense and refusing the vaccinations. Hunter Biden made lots of mistakes, and he’s paying for them. Ask any lawyer about whether he’s receiving favorable treatment as Evans claims. She likes the idea of “freedom of choice,” but I wonder if that also applies to women’s rights to choose. Finally, Trump lost the 2020 election by more than 7 million votes because enough voters saw him as who he really was and is: a humorless, ignorant, dishonest, unapologetic thug. That election was marred with a few problems, most of which were instigated by Republicans … anybody read about Michigan’s 16 fake electors who were recently indicted on criminal charges? What’s the difference between Watergate hearings and the multiple charges levied against Trump? Back in the ’70s, there were Republican congressmen who were brave enough to agree that Nixon should be indicted. Today, I wonder if there’s a single individual who dares to challenge Trump. Time to move on.
