Marie Gluesenkamp Perez has been taking fire from the National Republican Congressional Committee.
Their posts claim that she is responsible for voting to raise her constituents’ taxes by $3,400 per year. The same organization claims that she “voted for the largest tax hike since World War II.”
Such dubious claims are designed to have thoughtful voters question her record, but shouldn’t responsible claims have some semblance of being true? Searching Gluesenkamp Perez’s voting record on some 282 votes shows she has never voted for such a tax increase.
As a fiscally responsible agent for her district, Gluesenkamp Perez rejected the proposed One Big Beautiful Bill Act. Its passage extended the temporary Tax Cuts and Jobs Act signed into law Dec 23, 2017, when it should have expired on Dec. 31, 2025, as originally intended.
These boondoggle tax cuts have been projected to increase an already staggering national debt to over $2 trillion.
These cuts, as extended by the Republicans, are unsustainable. Valued social programs like Social Security and Medicare can be endangered and our children and grandchildren may ultimately pay the price.
Unfortunately, we cannot always believe what the RNCC tells us. We all know there is no free ride, and fortunately so does Gluesenkamp Perez.
