Please join me in voting YES on Proposition 1, the Fort Vancouver Regional Library (FVRL) levy lid lift measure.
In 1731, Benjamin Franklin founded the Library Company of Philadelphia, America’s first lending library. For a modest fee, ordinary artisans and farmers could access books previously reserved for the wealthy.
Franklin understood that access to information was foundational to a democracy.
Today, FVRL gives all of us access to a wealth of information and resources. The library offers not only books and magazines in print and electronic formats but also access to movies, games, educational, and enrichment programs for all ages, as well as helpful library staff and convenient branches serving four counties.
Is your home Wi-Fi weak? The library offers Wi-Fi.
Did your home computer crash? The library offers computers for public use.
Have kids? I recently heard a man brag about how his young grandson first learned to jump at the library’s toddler story time.
The library charges no fees but relies on property taxes for 96% of its budget. The levy would cost less than $20/month in tax on a $400,00 home – cheaper than streaming subscriptions or buying books.
To preserve this resource for our community, please vote YES on Proposition 1.
