Local educators, volunteers honored with Learn Here Hero Awards

Several educators, school staff members and volunteers who support students across north Clark County were recognized this year with Learn Here Hero Awards presented by the nonprofit Identity Clark County.

The annual awards honor individuals across Southwest Washington for contributions to schools, colleges and universities, according to a Battle Ground Public Schools news release on May 20.

Honorees from Battle Ground included Rebecca Olson, a counselor at Daybreak Middle School, and Brook Trang, executive director of Read Northwest, which provides literacy support and serves multiple Clark County schools, including Battle Ground Public Schools.

Honorees from Firm Foundation Christian School in Battle Ground included third-grade teacher Sherina Sours and volunteer Jennifer Duke.

Hockinson School District honorees included behavior specialist Tasha Hill and Skilled Trades Center project manager Derek Huegel, who support student learning and career development.

Ridgefield School District honorees included Sunset Intermediate School Assistant Principal Stephanie Goad and Ridgefield Police Department Detective Tyler King, who works with students through school engagement and safety programs.
