Ridgefield School District students will soon have locally grown apples and pears on their school menus following a community harvest event at Brush Berry Farm in late August.
The event, organized through a partnership between Chartwells K-12 and participating school districts, resulted in the harvest of more than 450 pounds of apples and pears, according to a Ridgefield School District news release.
The produce will be distributed and served at school cafeterias in Ridgefield, Hockinson, Battle Ground, Washougal and Evergreen school districts.
Hockinson School District Superintendent Steve Marshall thanked Chartwells for its work connecting students with local farms and food producers.
“Chartwells has been more than a food service provider; they have been a partner,” Marshall said in the release. “Our students receive fresh, local ingredients in their meals, while local farms benefit and strengthen their connection to our schools.”
