Three local organizations have partnered to provide $50,000 in rental assistance for families facing financial hardship after a household member is detained or deported by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Council for the Homeless (CFTH), the Southwest Washington League of United Latin American Citizens Council 47013 (LULAC) and Latina Leadership NW (LLNW) are collaborating to support households that have lost income due to the detainment or deportation of a primary wage earner.
LULAC will verify rental assistance eligibility and connect families to the program, while LLNW will support outreach and communication. Then, CFTH will distribute rental payments to help prevent eviction, a CFTH press release stated.
“We recognize the sudden loss of a family member due to ICE abductions can be devastating,” CFTH Chief Operating Officer Sunny Wonder said in the release. “Our partnership with LULAC and Latina Leadership NW ensures families experiencing this crisis can receive culturally responsive, rapid support to help maintain their housing.”
