New Battle Ground High School Choir director looks to the future following successful Christmas Concert

Beginning what he describes as his dream job in August, new Battle Ground High School concert choir director David Lindner is excited to share his passion and grow the musical group.

Musically inclined since second grade, Lindner believes choir offers something that no other musical art can provide.

“There’s something that you can’t get anywhere else, except singing with a group of people. It’s a very unique experience,” Lindner said.

Lindner said he is excited for future choir events following BGHS’s annual Christmas concert’s success on Tuesday, Dec. 12. The concert choir, band and Chief Umtuch Middle School choir performed at the show. Hundreds attended the event, leaving only standing room.

The Christmas concert was a collaborative effort between Lidner, BGHS band director Greg McKelvey and Chief Umtuch Middle School choir director Sean Southworth. The concert included classic and nontraditional songs, such as “Angels We Have Heard on High” and “The Twelve Days After Christmas.”

Lindner plans to announce more concert performances next year, one for February and another in May. He also hopes to join the rest of the performing arts department in producing a musical.

“There’s tons of potential and opportunity for our choir program here,” Lindner said.

Choir students Charlotte Grail, Caleena Coker, Makayla Dowdy and Savannah Dashnaw believe their singing talent has flourished with Lindner’s aid.

“David is the best. He spends a lot of time working on practice records and getting us the tools we need for the choir,” Grail said.

“He is by far one of the best teachers I’ve ever had — super kind, really caring about the students,” Coker added.

“He is amazing. He’s so kind and is always making sure everyone is doing well. He meets us where we are in singing, and he can help us with whatever we need,” Dowdy said.

“He’s very welcoming, he makes the choir a very fun place to be. I really love the music he chooses,” Dashnaw said.
