A residential structure at 3012 Northwest Eddy Rock Road in La Center was severely damaged by a fire in the early morning hours of Thursday, Oct. 6.

Clark-Cowlitz Fire Rescue was dispatched to the call at 12:30 a.m. after a caller reported a “whole house is engulfed in fire,” stated a news release.

The fire rescue’s engine 23 arrived nine minutes later. They reported the fire had extended through the roof of a small, single-story residence, stated the release.

CCFR confirmed the building was unoccupied at the time.

Battalion chief 21 requested a water tender from Cowlitz County Fire District 1 and an additional CCFR water tender.

A defensive fire attack from outside of the structure was initiated. Crews concentrated on protecting nearby structures and motor homes, stated the release.

The fire was later declared under control at 1:26 a.m.

“Surrounding structures and vehicles sustained some damage secondary to radiant heat,” stated the release. “The American Red Cross was dispatched to the scene to assist three adults who were displaced by the fire. One dog is accounted for and uninjured. There were no reported injuries at this incident.”

The cause of the fire has not been determined. It’s being investigated by the Clark County Fire Marshal’s Office.

CCFR was assisted by responders from Cowlitz County Fire District 1, American Medical Response, the Clark County Fire Marshal’s Office and the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

The resources utilized included three fire engines, one ladder truck, two chief officers, two fire investigators, three water tenders, one AMR ambulance and one sheriff’s deputy. There were 21 personnel in all.
