The nomination period is open now for the 2024 Battle Ground Citizen of the Year award. The Battle Ground Citizens of the Year Committee is seeking nominations from the community for consideration for the 2024 award.

Nominees should be a person, couple or group that deserves to be nominated for their outstanding volunteer work in the Battle Ground community, “folks who see the needs of the community and help fill them,” according to the press release.

According to the press release:

• Nominees’ contributions may be in a number of different areas i.e., youth, senior, religious, community organizations, possibly including their business and/or profession.

• They cannot hold public office at the time of nomination.

• Nominees do not have to be a member of the business community.

• Candidates must live or work in Battle Ground or surrounding communities, and “their activities must be mainly centered in or have a positive effect on the local community.”

• The accomplishments to be acknowledged are based on the current year’s community contributions.

• Nominees cannot be previous winners.

Citizens of the year are recognized in many ways, including riding in the annual Harvest Days Parade to having a rose ceremonially planted in their honor by the Royal Rosarians of Portland. To nominate someone, visit the Battle Ground Citizen of the Year Facebook page and look for the nominations post, which will include a link to the nomination form, or go to tinyurl.com/453p7kds. The last day to enter a nominee is Jan. 20.

The Battle Ground Citizen of the Year will be announced in early 2025. Last year’s award winner was Ken Steinke, a longtime Lions Club member and volunteer driver for the North County Community Food Bank. A Battle Ground citizen of the Year has been named since 1973, with the exception of 2019. Call 360-798-9764 for more information.
