Northwood Public House in Battle Ground recently celebrated its 10th anniversary with a crab feast on March 5.
Owners Eric and Paula Starr expressed gratitude for the community’s support and the employees who have stayed by their side since the beginning.
“10 years ago, I was at a point in my career where I was looking for something to do on my own. I had worked in the restaurant and hospitality industry for a long time, my entire career,” Eric Starr said. “I heard this establishment up here could possibly be available.”
Before becoming Northwood Public House, the location was Laurelwood Public House. Starr kept all 30 Laurelwood employees and avoided menu changes early during the transition.
“We didn’t change a lot at first,” Starr said. “We wanted to let everybody know that our only objective was to take what was here and make it better.”
The first changes came to the on-site brewery. Starr purchased additional equipment to improve the beer quality. He then hired local micro-brewers who eventually formed Brothers Cascadia Brewing to create Northwood Public House’s first Village Idiot Imperial IPA.
“Village Idiot is the first beer that we made. We brew this beer at least four or five times a year,” Starr said. “So, when we were trying to decide on something special to do for our 10th anniversary, we decided to collaborate with Brothers Cascadia.”
Starr is proud of Northwood Public House, its employees and the Battle Ground community. Together, they’ve created a special and important part of the local social scene, Starr said.
“My objective has always been to have a great restaurant,” Starr said. “There’s been a wonderful community spirit and vibe that has organically grown in here.”
