A man arrested following a stabbing at a Battle Ground-area home on Friday, June 5, now faces first-degree murder and attempted murder charges after one of the victims died from their injuries.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit arrested Steven Williams, 39, of Battle Ground, on one count of first-degree murder (domestic violence) and one count of first-degree attempted murder (domestic violence). Williams was booked into the Clark County Jail where he remained over the weekend. Williams’ initial appearance in Clark County Superior Court came after press time.

Deputies responded at approximately 1:28 p.m. on Friday, June 5, to a home in the 11700 block of Northeast 244th Street, outside Battle Ground city limits. Initial information released by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office stated that one male victim had died and a female victim had been transported to an area hospital. Investigators detained Williams at the scene and said there was no threat to the public.

According to investigators, both victims are related to Williams. The surviving victim remains in stable condition at a local hospital, CCSO stated in an update. The identity of the deceased victim has not yet been released pending confirmation and notification procedures.

The sheriff’s office said investigators learned Williams attacked the victims with edged weapons. Multiple knives were recovered from the scene as Major Crimes Unit detectives processed evidence at the residence.
Authorities said Williams surrendered to law enforcement when deputies arrived.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation because the incident occurred outside Battle Ground city limits. The agency thanked the Battle Ground Police Department and the Vancouver Police Department for assisting with the response.
Northeast 244th Street remained closed Friday afternoon from west of state Route 503 to Northeast 239th Street near Daybreak Schools while investigators worked at the scene.

The investigation remains ongoing.
