The Battle Ground Police Department was prepared for large crowds and fast cars on the night of Friday, April 14, as news circulated on social media about an organized “street takeover event” at the intersection of Southwest Scotton Way and Southwest 10th Avenue in Battle Ground.

A flyer advertising the event on social media stated “let’s get the city popping” and “let’s get these cars/truck(s) sideways.”

Around 9 p.m. on Friday, a crowd filled the sidewalks as spectators came to see if the event would take place. An officer at the scene said Battle Ground Police Chief Mike Fort authorized overtime for two officers to ensure there were proper resources at the event.

Officers from the police department gave citations and traffic tickets to some of those in the area. Once the parking lot of a nearby gas station became full, officers cleared out the lot.

A second “street takeover” event occurred at the intersection of Northeast 72nd Avenue and Northeast 219th Street in Dollar’s Corner.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office was on scene with upwards of five sheriff’s office vehicles. At the event, a group of three dirt bikes traveled on Northeast 219th Street at high rates of speed with no headlights or tail lights.
