Authorities say the 5-year-old injured in last week's Longview crash is dead.

Longview Police Capt. Branden McNew told The Daily News on Thursday that the child — who was seated in the rear passenger seat of a vehicle hit by a motorcycle — has died.

Police determined the motorcyclist was at fault for the crash that occurred on Tennant Way, west of The Home Depot. The 22-year-old motorcyclist, a resident of Longview, died at the scene.

McNew said the department does not plan to release the identities of the parties involved.

The child passenger was sent to PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center after the wreck and later flown to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland.

Longview police officers responded to the intersection of Tennant Way and Ninth Avenue at about 6:33 p.m. on Sept. 4, regarding a crash.

Police found a vehicle and a motorcycle with significant damage; the motorcycle had caught fire from the wreck.

A witness reported a motorcyclist was speeding west on Tennant Way, then collided with a vehicle making a left turn onto Ninth Avenue.

The driver of the vehicle, a 24-year-old resident of Longview, was not injured, according to McNew.

A portion of Tennant Way and Ninth Avenue was closed for some time as Longview police, with the assistance of Washington State Patrol, investigated.
