Port of Woodland signs historic lease for terminal operations

The Port of Woodland announced the signing of its first maritime lease in its 64-year history on April 4. The port has entered a partnership with Wilsonville Concrete Products (WCP) to develop the port for industrial shipping.

“This is an exciting step for the Port of Woodland to diversify our economy in Woodland, bring additional family wage jobs to the area, and prepare the property for its intended use as was set out with its purchase in 1967,” Commission President Paul Cline stated in a news release.

WCP has operated for over 130 years and ships aggregate and concrete materials through the Columbia and Willamette rivers for construction.

“Our multi-generational family business is built on long-term partnerships combined with steady investment,” WCP President David Bernert said in a news release. “Our family is honored to be undertaking this new partnership with the Port of Woodland to activate the port’s Columbia River frontage as a source of quality local employment, while achieving market leading environmental and safety performance.”

The news release said WCP is committed to being carbon neutral and will remain dedicated to conservation investments for local communities.

Once WCP has developed a final plan and has received permits, a final lease review will be presented before the Port of Woodland’s Commission. The final agreement may take up to 24 months to be created, the release stated.
