U.S. Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, D-Skamania, recently announced the start of the Congressional Art Competition for high school students who reside in Washington’s Third District.

Ninth through 12th grade students are invited to submit one piece of original artwork highlighting Southwest Washington to the competition for a chance to have their work displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year and on the Congressional Art Competition website.

In addition, the first-place winner will win two paid round-trip plane tickets to the Congressional Art Competition National Reception in Washington, D.C., on June 25, a news release from Gluesenkamp Perez stated.

Students have until April 24 at 11:59 p.m. to enter. The winning artwork will be selected by a panel of Southwest Washington arts leaders.

Submissions must be the work of a single student, no larger than 26-by-26 inches when framed, and original in concept, design and execution. Paintings, drawings, collages, prints, photographs and mixed media will be accepted, but artwork may not be computer or AI-generated.

Students can learn more about entry requirements and submit their artwork at https://tinyurl.com/bdeb3w27.

“This competition is a great opportunity for talented young artists to highlight what makes Southwest Washington special, and have their artwork viewed by hundreds of people from across our country every day,” Gluesenkamp Perez said in a news release. “I’m excited to see the creativity and skill of your submissions this year and thank you to all of our arts educators empowering the next generation.”
