Ridgefield man arrested for vehicular assault after striking cyclist

A 60-year-old Ridgefield man was arrested after colliding with a bicyclist at about 9 a.m. July 4, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

The bicyclist reported the crash near the intersection of Northwest 291st Street and Northwest 71st Avenue.

“First responders with Clark-Cowlitz Fire Rescue, AMR, Ridgefield police and the Clark County Sheriff’s Office arrived to find an injured bicyclist and the driver of the vehicle who had remained at the scene,” the sheriff’s office stated in a news release. “The bicyclist was transported to PeaceHealth Hospital with serious injuries. Detectives with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit responded to the scene and are conducting an investigation.” 

The driver, Stephen Sauro, 60, of Ridgefield, was arrested for vehicular assault and booked into jail. 

The case is active pending further investigation by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit.
