The Ridgefield Police Department is recognizing Breast Cancer Awareness Month by participating in the “Pink Patch Project” for the fifth year in a row.

The Pink Patch Project is a campaign that aims to increase public awareness about breast cancer, while raising funds to fight the disease, according to a news release.

During the month of October, the Ridgefield Police Department and other agencies across the nation wear vibrant, pink versions of the agency’s patches on their uniforms.

“The pink patches are intended to stimulate conversation within the community and to encourage public awareness about the importance of early detection and treatment in the fight against breast cancer,” stated the release.

Other local law enforcement agencies who are participating in the campaign include the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, as well as the Battle Ground, La Center and Camas police departments.

The Ridgefield Police Department’s limited edition 2022 patches are available for purchase for $10. The money will go to the Pink Lemonade Project, a local nonprofit dedicated to the education, support and empowerment of those affected by breast cancer.

“Many of our lives have been touched because someone we know, love, or care about has been affected by cancer,” stated Ridgefield’s Interim Police Chief Cathy Doriot in the release. “The Pink Patch Project is an opportunity for us to connect with our community members to show our support to those who have been impacted by cancer, and to give financial support to a local nonprofit through the sale of patches.”

Patches in Ridgefield are available for purchase at the Ridgefield Police Department, Ridgefield Hardware, Seasons Coffee, Lava Java, Brewed Awakenings Ridgefield and Taps Beer Reserve.

They can also be purchased by mail at the Ridgefield Police Department, P.O. Box 546, Ridgefield, Washington, 98642. Those who request a patch by mail should include an additional $1 for postage or provide a self-addressed, stamped envelope.

There’s a limited number of 2022 patches available. They will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis.

“Please join us in raising awareness about breast cancer by purchasing your patch today,” stated the release.
