Ridgefield seeks students for Youth Commission

The city of Ridgefield is seeking student volunteers in grades 8-12 to serve on its 2026-27 Youth Commission, which gives young community members a chance to provide input on local issues and work with city leaders.

Each year, the commission works with experts and gathers input from peers on a selected topic before developing recommendations for the Ridgefield City Council. The topic for the 2026-27 term will be announced later this month, according to a City of Ridgefield news release.

Students in grades 8-12 who attend a Ridgefield School District school or who live within the Ridgefield Urban Growth Area and attend another school or an equivalent nontraditional program are eligible to apply.

“Commissioners gain skills in presentation, collaboration, leadership, research and decision-making while learning how local government works and creating the changes they want to see in the City,” according to the Youth Commission’s website.

Applications are due Tuesday, Sept. 22. The commission's first meeting will be Oct. 20, with regular meetings held the first Tuesday of each month from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Ridgefield Administrative and Civic Center, 510 Pioneer St., Ridgefield.
