The Ridgefield City Council is seeking an energetic and organized teenager to be the first youth member of the Ridgefield Parks Board.

The volunteer position will provide an opportunity to advocate for youth perspectives and make a lasting impact on local parks.

The youth volunteer will work alongside six other Ridgefield Parks Board members to improve park planning, acquisition, operations and maintenance, a news release by the City of Ridgefield stated.

The volunteer must participate in Parks Board meetings, held at 6:30 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month at the Ridgefield Administrative and Civic Center, located at 510 Pioneer St., Ridgefield.

To qualify, the volunteer must reside within Ridgefield city limits, be between 14 and 17 years of age and have a desire to represent youth opinions on the Parks Board, the news release stated.

To apply for the volunteer position, applicants must write a cover letter, obtain an authorization form from their parent or guardian and receive a non-family member recommendation letter. Applications are due by 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 26, the news release stated.

Applications will be reviewed by Ridgefield’s mayor and a Parks Board member. Finalists will be selected from the pool of applicants for an interview. The new youth volunteer will be appointed at a city council meeting on Thursday, March 13, the release stated.
