Ridgefield the lone north Clark County softball team to advance to state tournament

District softball tournaments concluded last week with season-ending results for Prairie, Woodland, Hockinson and La Center as Ridgefield battled for a state tournament berth.

Ridgefield earned a state berth after a strong run through the 2A District 4 tournament consolation bracket.

The Spudders opened district play with a 10-3 win over Tumwater High School on Thursday, May 14, before falling 4-3 to W.F. West High School later that day.

Facing elimination, Ridgefield responded with a 14-0 victory over Black Hills High School on Friday, May 15, before defeating the Tumwater Thunderbirds 15-10 in a winner-to-state matchup later that evening.

In the 3A District 4 tournament, Prairie secured a 3A Greater St. Helens League title for the fifth season in a row but lost out on a trip to the state tournament.

The Falcons dropped an 8-6 contest to Shelton High School on Friday, May 15, but as the GSHL No. 1 seed, the Falcons still advanced to a winner-to-state game the following day.

Shelton defeated Prairie again 3-1 on Saturday, May 16, ending the Falcons’ season.

Woodland’s postseason run came to an end in the consolation bracket of the 2A district tournament.
The Beavers fell 11-1 to W.F. West High School in the opening round on Thursday, May 14, before dropping a 16-2 elimination game to Tumwater later that day.

Hockinson was eliminated in the pigtail round of the 2A district tournament. The Hawks fell 17-6 to Tumwater High School on Tuesday, May 12, to end their season.

In the 1A District 1/4 tournament, La Center’s season ended after two losses. The Wildcats opened the tournament with a 20-6 loss to Columbia High School (White Salmon) on Friday, May 15, before falling 6-5 to Blaine High School later that day in an elimination game.
