Road repairs to begin on Forest Road 93 in the Gifford Pinchot

Posted

Road repair work on Forest Road 93 on the Gifford Pinchot National Forest began Sept. 1 and will continue through Oct. 30, a news release from the Gifford Pinchot National Forest stated.

Forest Road 93 runs north and south between Mount St. Helens and Mount Adams and intersects with Forest Road 90 at Lewis River Horse Camp.

The project will fortify the adjacent hillside and reinstall a key culvert.

The route was initially damaged by a large weather event in December 2023, when a landslide impacted the supporting hillside. A temporary bypass was constructed, but ongoing erosion has since made the road unsafe and impassable.

The road will be closed from milepost 2.26 at the junction with Forest Road 9039 to milepost 6.95. During the closure, Forest Road 93 will not be accessible as a through route. Forest Road 9039 will remain open and will continue to provide access to Forest Road 90 and Forest Road 25.

Forest managers ask visitors to avoid the closure area for the safety of personnel and the public during construction. Keeping the road closed allows crews to work quickly and efficiently with heavy equipment, reduces hazards, and helps the project stay on schedule, the release stated.
