The race for 18th district senator is heating up as new Republican candidate Brad Benton announced his candidacy in a March 27 press release.

Benton joins Adrian Cortes, who announced his candidacy earlier this March, in the race to fill the seat vacated by incumbent Sen. Ann Rivers, who announced she would not run for re-election.

In the press release, Benton announced his legislative priorities include repealing bad laws, fighting tax increases and fixing Interstate 5 bridge traffic and congestion problems without the use of tolls or light rail.

“These priorities are a starting point and the foundation of my campaign. But I am eager to

hear about the other issues that matter to the people of the 18th legislative district,” Benton said in the release.
