A Longview man with a warrant for escaping from community custody appears to have fatally shot himself when approached by law enforcement, the Cowlitz County Sheriff's Office announced Wednesday.
According to a department press release, Deyshawn Joshua Namock, 25, assaulted a woman, then stole her cell phone and vehicle on Tuesday.
Authorities say he was tracked to a home on Star Road in Kalama, but refused to leave, forcing law enforcement to eventually enter. Namock was found dead inside the home, near a gun, the press release states.
Troy Brightbill, chief criminal deputy with the county sheriff's office, told The Daily News the incident occurred Tuesday, but SWAT's role ended around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday. Deputies remained on scene to investigate the death and stolen vehicle.
After broadcasting for people to exit the Kalama home on Tuesday, a woman connected to Namock, a child and another adult left the residence, but not the suspect, the release states.
None of the people at the residence were the homeowners, who were unaware of any alleged crimes and helped law enforcement.
After the Kelso police obtained a search warrant and the Lower Columbia SWAT Team was activated, authorities entered the home.
While inside, the SWAT team reported hearing a muffled pop from the attic. With the use of a camera, law enforcement found Namock's body along with a gun near him, according to the notice.
Medics with Cowlitz County Fire District 5 rendered medical assistance and determined he was dead. Cowlitz County Coroner's Office took the body.
Namock was also wanted by the Kelso Police Department and the Longview Police Department for a range of allegations, including first-degree robbery, second-degree assault and domestic violence assault, the press release states.
