The Ridgefield School District received a clean audit from the Washington State Auditor’s Office for the 2021-2022 school year, the district announced.

The audit is an annual occurrence for the district given its size and budget, a news release from the district stated. Independent state auditors reviewed financial aspects ranging from payroll to public works, as well as its open public meetings practices.

“The auditor’s report concludes that the district provided adequate controls over the safeguarding of public resources; the district complied with laws and regulations; and that there were no internal control deficiencies,” the district release stated.

Ridgefield Superintendent Nathan McCann said the district takes its use of public funds seriously. McCann was proud of district administrators who ensured the safeguarding of those funds.

“Receiving a clean audit is evidence of our commitment to financial transparency and efficiency, and I thank our business office staff for their hard work through the long audit process,” McCann stated in the release.

School districts get audited at the state level annually to track public money in an effort to provide essential accountability and transparency for district operations, the release stated.

Paula McCoy, Ridgefield School District’s executive director of business services, said the district “is fully committed to maintaining and building the public’s trust.”

“Our track record of accountability is critical, and we are pleased to have another year of clean audits that demonstrate our commitment to being good financial stewards,” McCoy stated in the release.
