The Clark Public Utilities StreamTeam will celebrate its achievement of planting one million trees this Earth Day by hosting another planting event on Saturday, April 22, in the Salmon Creek watershed.

Volunteers are required to register in advance to participate and space is limited, according to a news release.

“This is truly (a) special year for us and all of the volunteers and employees past and present who’ve helped us reach this milestone,” Clark Public Utilities Environmental Sustainability Manager Michael O’Loughlin stated in the release. “We’re going to celebrate it in the best way we can, bringing the community together to plant even more trees.”

Between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., 100 volunteers will help StreamTeam plant native trees to restore salmon habitat in a critical watershed.

All training and tools will be provided. Volunteers will be provided with coffee and snacks in the morning and lunch in the afternoon.

“This is a rain or shine event, so volunteers should dress for the weather and bring work gloves,” stated the release. “Sturdy boots are strongly recommended.”

The StreamTeam is a volunteer-driven program of Clark Public Utilities  that includes more than 1,000 team members who donate more than 3,500 hours of their time each year to help save salmon. StreamTeam members include utility employees, “Stream Stewards,” scout groups, college students, youth groups and active retirees. Activities include tree planting, water quality and plant survival monitoring, and educational outreach.

Participating youth can log their time toward service hours requirements.

Those interested in participating should register online at Eventbrite at tinyurl.com/2p8pdtdw. Volunteers under the age of 18 who will not be accompanied by their legal guardian need to bring a signed release, which can be found online at tinyurl.com/5ywwz7nm. The event location will be included with the registration confirmation.
