Battle Ground Public School’s Center for Agriculture, Science, and Environmental Education (CASEE) Center students helped the Lewis River Rotary Club spruce up the streambank of Woodin Creek on Saturday, Feb. 24.
Students removed invasive plants and in return planted numerous native plants including Nootka rose, Pacific ninebark, snowberry, salmonberry and others. The students dug up and pulled mainly Himalayan blackberry, English ivy and English holly, CASEE Instructor Irene Catlin said.
“We actually brought all the plants that students helped to propagate,” Catlin said. “So the students took cuttings. We propagated the plants. We grew them, potted them, and now we’re replanting them here.”
