A 17-year-old was sentenced Tuesday to 30 days in Cowlitz County Jail for his role in a drive-by shooting outside the Longview Dairy Queen in September.
The Daily News does not name defendants tried in juvenile court.
According to court records, the accused teen pleaded guilty to the amended charges of first-degree felony rendering criminal assistance and reckless driving. He was initially charged with attempting to elude police and drive-by shooting.
Overall, he was sentenced to 30 days in jail and 12 months probation. Court records show he was ordered to surrender by 4 p.m. Friday, after The Daily News deadline. He has been out on bail since September.
According to arresting documents, on Sept. 5, the teenager drove William Raymond Canales, 28, of Longview, in a 1996 red Honda Civic to the Dairy Queen at 3211 Ocean Beach Hwy., where Canales shot at a group of people, wounding one. The teen driver then picked up Canales nearby.
The teen, dressed in all black, left the Dairy Queen parking lot, heading toward Maple Street and Tibbetts Drive, while Canales ran away on foot.
After police pinned the vehicle, the three occupants fled on foot but were eventually arrested. A firearm was found inside the Civic, with records showing the 9mm Glock Model 48 was stolen, court records show.
Canales pleaded guilty to second-degree attempted murder in Cowlitz County Superior Court and was sentenced earlier this month to nearly 20 years in prison. A third passenger was not charged.
