Authorities say a Toutle driver attempting to pass a Volvo turning off Spirit Lake Memorial Highway near the turnoff to state Route 505 caused an accident Saturday afternoon and injured him and two others.

Conner A. Kruse, 20, is suspected of improper passing, according to a Washington State Patrol press memo.

Kruse tried to pass two Marysville people who slowed to turn left onto a driveway east of the Toutle Motorsports Park around 3:10 p.m., but hit their white 2016 Volvo S60 instead because Kruse also tried to pass on the left.

Kruse, as well as his passenger — Ava K. O'Brien, 18, of Silverlake — were injured in a gray 2000 Toyota 4Runner and sent to PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center, the memo states.

The passenger of the Volvo — Janet L. Roberson, 61, of Marysville — was also injured and sent to the same hospital.

The Volvo's driver — Dale G. Roberson, 60, of Marysville — was not injured.

Everyone was wearing their seatbelts and both vehicles were totaled, according to the memo.

Neither drugs nor alcohol were involved.
