Two people were injured in a head-on boat collision on the Columbia River Friday afternoon.

Sgt. Marc Johnston from the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office said the collision took place before 2 p.m. on the Washington side of the Columbia River near Longview involving two 20-foot fishing vessels.

Two passengers were taken to PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center in Longview for unspecified medical reasons.

One person fell from the boat while not wearing a life jacket, he said. It was not immediately clear if that person was one of the injured pair.

Johnston said the crash was an offset head-on collision. One of the boats was moving slowly while trolling for fish, when the vessel was struck by the other boat.

One boat was carrying four people, while another boat had three.

Both boats sustained damage, but no citations were issued.

Johnston said the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office is handling the investigation.
