A man is in custody for allegedly stabbing several people in and around the Last Frontier Casino in La Center shortly before midnight on Monday night.

At about 11:45 p.m. on Dec. 12, multiple police departments and the Clark County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of stabbings at the casino. Multiple people at the casino called 911 and described the alleged stabbings as “a random, unprovoked attack,” according to a release from the sheriff’s office.

A number of employees and visitors to the Last Frontier attempted to confront the suspect, who was armed with what looked like a hunting knife, the release stated.

According to video reviewed by police, the suspect, later identified as Scott Harmier, 41, was sitting at a poker table when he reached down to grab something, the release stated.

“Without provocation or warning,” the suspect stood up and stabbed a man to his left about five times in the victim’s head and chest, according to the release. The suspect swung the knife at patrons attempting to intervene.

The suspect approached a woman who was sitting at the same table and tried to stab her three times, the release stated. He then chased a man outside into the parking lot. The victim fell, and the suspect appeared to stab him twice. The suspect then got into a vehicle and drove off.

Four victims at the casino were transported to the hospital with knife wounds. As of Tuesday morning, three had been released with one admitted for further observation. All victims are expected to survive their injuries.

Just after midnight on Dec. 13, sheriff’s deputies reported a vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s car driving southbound on Interstate 205, the release stated. The suspect drove at speeds more than 100 miles per hour, taking the exit onto Northeast Padden Parkway going east.

Police immobilized the suspect vehicle, and took Harmier into custody without further incident, according to the release. He was booked into jail on four counts of first-degree assault.
