On Friday, Feb. 7, Walmart staff delivered a special show of appreciation to the Battle Ground Police Department (BGPD), recognizing the dedication of local officers, particularly those working over Super Bowl weekend. Walmart representatives presented eight game day meal baskets — tailored to feed 59 people — to ensure that all officers had a hearty meal in honor of Super Bowl LIX
“This specific event was really an appreciation, and it’s a company-wide appreciation plan but locally we’re the only store that was participating in it,” Store Manager Brandi Quinlan said. “It’s really to appreciate the first responders, and we are very fortunate to have a really good relationship with our local police department.”
BGPD Chief Dennis Flynn expressed gratitude for Walmart’s ongoing support, emphasizing the store’s commitment to the community.
“We live in a city, and police in a city that is very unique in the fact that we have such an incredible partnership with many of the businesses, but certainly with Walmart,” Flynn said. “This is not a first-time case. This is ongoing support that we get from them.”
Walmart also provides resources and hosts annual events such as Shop with a Cop, helping children and families in need during the holiday season. Last year, more than 20 local children shopped with 14 Battle Ground Police officers and Walmart staff.
Flynn highlighted the store’s approach to law enforcement interactions.
“Walmart always takes it from an approach of what’s gonna be best for the people involved,” Flynn explained. “They’re not always looking to just take people and lock them up—are there extenuating circumstances? And they’ve allowed the police department to work in concert with their employees to try to resolve situations in the best way possible.”
