The Woodland Beavers enter the 2026 football season with a familiar roster, an experienced coaching staff and an emphasis on doing the little things well.
Head coach Glen Flanagan said much of the team’s offensive personnel returns from last season, giving the Beavers added chemistry heading into the year.
“It’s a very similar squad,” Flanagan said, adding the offensive coordinator and run game coordinator also return for another year of collaboration. “So there’s a lot more chemistry. There’s a lot more flow.”
One of the biggest competitions entering the season is at quarterback. Junior Michael Belvin returns after earning first-team all-league honors, but he is being challenged by sophomore Jackson Andrews, a talented multi-sport athlete who earned quarterback MVP honors at a team camp at George Fox University.
Belvin remains the No. 1 option, Flanagan said, but Andrews gives Woodland a strong second option.
“Mikey is our number one, but we have a very solid 1B,” Flanagan said.
The Beavers also return several playmakers, including running back Dayton Morris, who earned second-team all-league honors as a freshman, along with Tanner Cusick and Josh Graham.
For Woodland, staying healthy will be one of the biggest keys to the season. Flanagan said the Beavers have quality players but lack the depth of some larger programs.
“We’re not deep,” Flanagan said, adding the school population totals differ from some 2A powerhouses. “You know, we got our kids. And so we got to stay healthy.”
The offensive and defensive lines could be another strength. Flanagan said several experienced linemen give Woodland a foundation in the trenches.
“I think you have to start with the line,” Flanagan said. “Those guys in the trenches are really important.”
Special teams will also receive increased attention. Junior long snapper Evan Martynowicz has turned the specialized position into a potential path to playing football at the next level, while Josh Graham takes over as the team’s kicker.
Flanagan said special teams can be especially important at the high school level because of field position.
“You can’t win without good special teams,” Flanagan said.
