Worthy of the Evergreen State’s crown and sash

Battle Ground’s Natalie Worthy crowned Miss Washington

Seven years after beginning her pageant journey as a teenager through the Miss Clark County Scholarship Organization, Battle Ground resident Natalie Worthy has accomplished her ultimate goal — becoming Miss Washington.

The 23-year-old, who most recently served as Miss Greater Vancouver, captured the Miss Washington title in Olympia on July 11 and will now represent the Evergreen State at the Miss America competition in West Palm Beach, Florida, in September.

Not too long ago, in 2023, Vanessa Munson, a Prairie High School graduate, was upgraded from Miss Clark County to Miss Washington. Worthy closely follows Munson’s footsteps just a few years later.

For Worthy, representing Washington on the national stage also means bringing recognition to the community where her journey began.

“I love that I’m able to put our small town on the map, and I love that I have such a great community beside me who supported me through all of my local endeavors to now statewide and national endeavors,” Worthy said. “I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone that supported me on this journey, everyone that has donated to my fundraisers, everyone who’s let me into their classrooms to speak with their students, or anyone who even asked for my autograph. It means so much to know that there are people in this community that really care about the work that not only I am doing, but the work that the Miss America pageant is doing.”

The experience has only intensified since earning the crown.

"It's been a whirlwind. Washington is actually the last state to crown our title holders before Miss America, so in about six weeks I'll be hitting the national stage, so it's been a lot of paperwork, a lot of preparation, a lot of travel," Worthy said.

Although she now wears the Miss Washington crown, Worthy said winning was years in the making.

"I started in the Miss Washington Scholarship Organization when I was 16 years old, and now I'm 23, and I've been competing practically ever since," she said. "This is my third time competing at the state level for the Miss Division. I previously held the titles of Miss Greater Vancouver 2022, Miss Pierce County 2024, and then of course Miss Greater Vancouver 2026 this year, and now Miss Washington 2026."

She entered the competition determined to win while also focusing on smaller milestones throughout the week.

Worthy had high hopes for the highest honor, but also set smaller goals like winning a preliminary talent award. She ended up with a preliminary talent award, but also a preliminary fitness award, evening gown award and highest scoring interview award en route to the state crown.

She described the overall victory as validation of years of perseverance.

"The week for me was filled with a lot of small goals and achievements that really came to fruition in many more ways than just simply the crown, and winning was the cherry on top of all the hard work that I put into this," Worthy said.

After placing in the top 10 during her first two appearances at Miss Washington, Worthy said finally earning the title showed that persistence pays off.

“I think it says a lot about how growth is so important in this program, and it takes a lot of time,” she said.

As Miss Washington, Worthy will continue promoting her community service initiative, “Amplify the Arts: Every Student Every Stage,” which advocates for arts education.

“I’ve had a lot of experience serving locally, and I’m ready to take it to the next level,” she said.

While she will be traveling throughout the state during her year of service, Worthy hopes Clark County residents will follow her journey to Miss America. “They will definitely be able to see me at Miss America if they want to live stream it,” she said. “I truly hope that Washingtonians, and especially Clark County residents, follow along on that journey and tune in on September 6.”

Looking back on the path that began in Battle Ground, Worthy said the greatest reward has not been the crown itself.

"I would say to enjoy the journey and enjoy the ride," she said. "The most favorite parts of my journey has been the growth experience, the sisterhood that I've gained, and the support systems that I've also gained from being in this program. It's been the people who have changed my life."

She also hopes people remember the educational mission behind the Miss America organization.

"This weekend I actually walked away with, in culmination of preliminary awards and general scholarships, I walked away with $20,000 in college scholarships," Worthy said, adding that she has earned a grand total of $33,600 in scholarship dollars from her time in the Miss Washington Scholarship Organization. "Miss America is still the number one provider of scholarships for young women across America."
