Alderbrook Park in Brush Prairie will host a Friday Night Cruise In from 4 p.m. until dusk on every Friday from May 27 to Sept. 16.
Alderbrook Park Events General Manager Chris Bryden is excited to host cruise-in events now that COVID-19 restrictions are no longer in place.
“(The cruise in) is a family-based event, so not only do you get all the classic cars like hot rods, motorcycles, and things like that to look at, you also have access to our swimming pool, pedal boats, bounce houses, train rides and a petting zoo,” said Bryden. “All of the play structures are available (and) the restaurant and café are open. We have two snack shacks available that are open with all the funfair food, pink lemonade fountains, horseshoes, and beanbags. Everything available at the park is included in your admission.”
The removal of pandemic-related restrictions will allow the event to feature more vendors than the two previous iterations of the annual event line up. Vendors will include balloon artists and face painters, among others.
“There could be food trucks one weekend and a different food truck the next weekend,” Bryden said.
The pandemic didn’t affect the car shows the park held since they were outside events and included space for social distancing.
“It did wipe out our corporate events though,” Bryden said, noting they had to cancel some company picnics and other events. “If you take 194 events and cancel all those, it was pretty tough on us.”
The previous two years Bryden said the cruise-in featured around 300 cars each Friday. He projects it’ll be about the same amount this year. Alderbrook’s field can accommodate 350 vehicles.
Each year, Bryden sees a great variety of cars ranging from 1920s and 1930s hot rods, muscle cars, custom motorcycles, Corvettes, McLarens, Maseratis and Ferraris. He said he’s personally a fan of muscle cars, particularly the 1968 fastback Mustangs.
Some of the vendors will be specifically geared toward car enthusiasts. They will sell auto parts, while others will offer pinstripping services for vehicles.
“I love the atmosphere and the fun,” he said. “It’s nice to see people enjoying the car culture and bringing their families out to enjoy what the park has to offer.”
The cruise-in costs $10 per carload for participants with a car or truck, $5 for motorcycles, and $5 for spectators, which includes all the other activities at the event. Cash is the only form of payment that is accepted. Participants do not have to sign up in advance and are allowed to pay when they arrive. Pets and outside alcohol are not allowed, and there is no ATM on site.
For the pedal boats on the lake, Bryden said lifejackets will be provided for children 14 and under. The pool will also have lifeguards on duty. In addition, there will be 18 holes of mini-golf and a merry-go-round.
