The man found dead at a campsite surrounded by booby traps in northeast Clark County earlier this month has been identified.
The Clark County Medical Examiner’s office identified Shane Beech, 52, of Battle Ground, as the man discovered at a campsite east of Chelatchie Prairie on Sept. 12. His cause and manner of death were still pending as of the medical examiner’s announcement.
Beech was found after the Clark County Sheriff’s Office responded to a suspicious circumstances call east of Chelatchie Prairie off of Forest Road 54 at approximately 8:10 a.m. on Sept. 12, stated a prior news release.
A woman who flagged down a passerby in a vehicle said she needed help because her boyfriend was found unresponsive and possibly dead in a tent at their camp site. The driver called 911, stated the release.
Once deputies arrived on scene, the woman led them to the area where the two had been camping and was cooperative throughout the investigation. She told deputies her boyfriend had possibly set up trip wires and traps around their tent the previous day, stated the release.
Members of the Metropolitan Explosive Disposal Unit, Tactical Emergency Medical Support and the SWAT team responded to the scene.
An explosive disposal robot was able to confirm that Beech was dead inside of the tent. The Metropolitan Explosive Disposal Unit spent several hours clearing multiple suspicious devices from the tent and the surrounding areas to allow sheriff’s office personnel and the medical examiner’s office to recover his body.
