Battle Ground Rotary and Lewis River Rotary recently hosted a friendly competition to collect item donations for Battle Ground Senior Citizens (BGSC), an organization that provides numerous social activities and educational classes to local seniors.

The Rotarians jumped into action after BGSC board advisor Lori Lindberg invited the clubs to participate in the event to support the organization. The winning club that collected the most donations earned a pizza party from Main Street’s Detroit Pizza, a press release from BGSC stated.

The Rotary clubs collected supplies for the BGSC monthly luncheon, office, raffle prizes and more. Battle Ground Rotary emerged victorious, and the Rotarians collectively raised $4,000 in goods, the press release stated.

“We were completely astonished by the overwhelming support of donations from our local Rotarians. These items are so needed and will help us serve our nearly 500 seniors on the roster now,” BGSC President Sharon Wodtke said in the press release.

Many of the supplies will be used during BGSC monthly luncheons, where volunteers serve nearly 200 seniors a free meal while providing a social gathering at the Battle Ground Community Center, 912 NE Main St., Battle Ground.
