Battle Ground softball continues to fight for their identity after up and down week

Heading into spring break, the Battle Ground Tigers softball team sits at 2-2-1, as the coaching staff believes the players need to put more focus on the games themselves.

The Tigers lost a tough one on Tuesday, March 25, against Heritage.

Jeremy Barr said that the focus needs to change.

Battle Ground had a 4-3 lead in the seventh after making a comeback, but Heritage walked it off with a game-winning two-run home run.

“Our focus wasn’t where it needed to be today,” he said. “We’re focused in on the things that didn’t matter. And Heritage showed up and they were focused and locked in, and they deserved to win that game today.”

Battle Ground did bounce back and beat the winless Evergreen softball squad 16-0 after an eight-run first inning. In four innings, the Tigers racked up 14 hits in the win against Evergreen on Thursday, March 27.

Looking at the rest of the season after the March 25 loss, Barr hopes his squad finds its focus to play the brand of softball that the Tigers have established.

“We can not be showing up thinking we’re going to win because we’re Battle Ground,” he said. “So we’re going to have to focus and lock in and find a way to put the bat on the ball and then clean up our defense. … I have to do a better job of getting them ready to go and find a way to bring out the intensity in them and then we have to find a way to do the job.”

After spring break, the Tigers play at Ridgefield High School on Monday, April 7, at 4:30 p.m. They next play school district rival Prairie High School at home on Thursday, April 10, at 4:30 p.m.
