A Battle Ground High School teacher remains in Linn County Jail on suspicion of first-degree online sexual corruption of a child with a bail placed at $150,000.

Kevin Weeks, 57, was arrested on April 20 in Albany, Oregon, after being caught up in a citizen-led sting on social media. He was arraigned April 22.

Weeks is charged with first-degree online sexual corruption of a child. While second-degree online sexual corruption of a child charges involves an adult contacting a child “online for the purpose of arousing or gratifying the sexual desire of the person or another person,” according to Oregon statute, first-degree charges are issued when an adult suspect, “intentionally takes a substantial step toward physically meeting with or encountering the child,” after violating second-degree charges.

Weeks was arraigned on April 22 and as of press time, a status hearing was set to occur on Monday, May 6.

An email from Battle Ground High School Principal Charbonneau Gourde sent to parents of Battle Ground High School students, Sunday, April 21, stated the teacher has been placed on administrative leave and will not be at school while the Battle Ground Public Schools district completes their own investigation. As of press time, no further information has been given by the Battle Ground Public Schools district regarding the matter.
