Brush Prairie man IDed in Portland murder

A Brush Prairie man is identified as the victim of gun violence in Portland, police say.

According to the Portland Police Bureau, on Oct. 11, Ryan Martin, 47, was gunned down near Southwest 10th Avenue and Southwest Alder Street.

When multiple Portland officers arrived at the scene, two victims were found, according to a press release. Martin died at the scene, while the other was transported to an ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.

Geoffrey E. Hammond, 46 of Portland, is the suspect in the case, according to an update by the Portland Police Bureau. He faces charges of second-degree attempted and actual murder with a firearm, first-degree assault with a firearm, and two counts of unlawful use of a firearm.

Following his death, Martin received an outpouring of support for his family. One memento talked about his place in the community.

“Ryan Martin was not just a neighbor; he was a friend, a mentor, and a source of inspiration. His passing leaves a void that will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of sharing in his laughter, music, and unwavering love for others,” one testament to the man stated.
