Clark County experienced another, although smaller, increase in its recent COVID-19 case rate alongside nine deaths from the disease that were reported in the past week.

Clark County Public Health’s April 20 report included 39.1 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 population over seven days, up from the 38.7 per 100,000 reported the prior week.

The recent statewide case rate decreased and is lower than Clark County’s rate. As of April 20, Washington had 32 cases per 100,000 population, down from 35 per 100,000 the prior week.

Recent case rates lag behind the most recent counts of cases. The health department’s most recent case rate was based on activity from April 4 to April 10.

Clark County Public Health tallied 165 additional cases between April 13 and April 20, lower than the 222 recorded between April 6 and April 13. The county’s case total includes 113,295 confirmed and probable cases in Clark County since the outbreak began, although that number does not include at-home tests, which often go unreported.

Clark County Public Health’s April 20 report included eight additional confirmed COVID-19 deaths and one death suspected to be due to the disease since its report the prior week. On April 13, the health department reported two confirmed COVID-19 deaths and one death suspected to be due to the disease.

The nine additional COVID-19 deaths bring Clark County’s total to 1,095, which includes 905 confirmed and 190 suspected deaths.

The number of COVID-19 patients occupying hospital beds in Clark County dropped in the latest data. As of April 20, 14% of beds had either patients with confirmed COVID-19 or patients awaiting test results, less than the 18% reported on April 13. The number of intensive care unit (ICU) beds occupied by COVID-19 patients and patients awaiting test results also decreased to 8.5%, compared to 14.6% from the prior week.

New COVID-19 hospital admissions also dropped from the prior week. In its April 20 report, the health department reported 3.6 admissions per 100,000 population in the past seven days, less than the 6.6 per 100,000 the prior week.

Clark County’s share of COVID-19 cases and deaths statewide stayed about the same in the latest data. According to the Washington State Department of Health, the county had about 5.8% of cases and about 6.8% of deaths in Washington.
