Clubs and organizations came together to celebrate Park Appreciation Day and Earth Day on Saturday, April 22, as volunteers helped clean up local parks.

Battle Ground Recreation and Facilities Manager Kim Cederholm said there were approximately 100 volunteers who helped cleanup five parks in the city of Battle Ground.

“We have a program where different organizations can sign-up and adopt a park,” Cederholm said.

At Kiwanis Park, members of the Kiwanis Club, IQ Credit Union and Clark County Fire District 3 worked together to collect trash and remove debris, while they helped beautify the park for visitors to enjoy.

At Florence Robison Park, members of the Lions Club and the General Federation of Women’s Clubs focused on removing weeds and placing new bark dust.

“We have the cub scouts over at Fairgrounds Park laying bark dust,” Cedarholm said on Saturday. “Kiwanis, they are raking out tons of leaves (and) they have a huge trailer they are filling. I was just at McConnell Park. They have a smaller group and they’re cleaning up the slide and underneath all the playground equipment.”

After the citywide cleanup event finished at noon, community members could be seen enjoying the refreshed city parks throughout Earth Day as the temperature reached 65 degrees in the Battle Ground area.
