County to host open house on Gordy Jolma Family Natural Area plans

Clark County and the Cowlitz Indian Tribe are inviting residents to help shape the next phase of plans for the Gordy Jolma Family Natural Area during an open house on Wednesday, Oct.  29.

Refined plans for the project, developed collaboratively by the county and the Tribe based on community feedback from April, will be shared during the event. The open house will begin at 6 p.m. at the Battle Ground Event Center, 912 E. Main St., Battle Ground.

The Gordy Jolma Family Natural Area, a former golf course property located at 15051 NE 181st St., Brush Prairie, was purchased in 2022 through Clark County’s Legacy Lands Program. The restoration effort aims to improve native fish habitat along Salmon Creek while expanding public access for walking, birdwatching, fishing and outdoor education, a Clark County news release stated.

Preliminary designs include removing fish passage barriers and restoring natural habitat along two miles of Salmon Creek, a critical spawning area for several native fish species.

Residents may attend the open house virtually via Webex. Meeting details, recordings and translated materials are available online at shorturl.at/s1Ufj.
