The human remains discovered in a homeless encampment by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) on April 22, near the Clark County Fairgrounds in Ridgefield, have been identified as Jerry Wayne Whittier, age 61, by the Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The Medical Examiner’s Office has not released the cause and manner of death as of Friday, May 10, and is still investigating.

The CCSO Major Crimes Unit and the Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office disassembled the tent structure and recovered the human remains on April 23. According to a CCSO news release, officials believe the remains were there for an extended period of time, estimated between six to 12 months.

No foul play is suspected in Whittier’s death, but the case will remain under investigation.
