Anna Lorraine Nutter, affectionately known as “Kuky,” passed away on August 31, 2026, in Battle Ground, Washington, at the remarkable age of 103.
Born on March 10, 1923, in Snow Hill, West Virginia, to Anna and Arthur Shawver, Kuky grew up with a strong work ethic and a zest for life. In July 1942, she married the love of her life, George Nutter, and together they raised four children: Nena Falkenstein, Gayle Nutter, Arthur “AC” Nutter, and Alan “Keith” Nutter. After marrying, Kuky and George traveled between West Virginia and Washington before settling in Vancouver, Washington, where they built their home and life.
Kuky was never idle. She raised children, worked on the family farm, drove a forklift at the cannery, and—shovel in hand—even dug her own basement. After retiring in the early 1980s, she and George spent many happy years traveling the United States in their motor home, creating countless memories together.
A woman of many talents, Kuky especially loved gardening and took great pride in her vegetable and flower beds, with tomatoes being her favorite. She was an accomplished seamstress who made clothing for her family for many years, and she enjoyed crocheting, creating beautiful blankets and quilts that remain treasured keepsakes. She was also a wonderful cook, known for custard toast, fried chicken, warm potato salad, baked beans, cooked-down green beans, and pistachio pudding cake served with sweet tea.
Kuky loved people and cherished time spent visiting with family and friends. She remained active throughout her life and was involved with the PTA and Battle Ground Schools, the Clark County Grange, Washington State Elections, and the Clark County Fair. She welcomed everyone into her home with kindness and a smile.
Her 103 years were filled with family, friendship, hard work, travel, creativity, and countless cherished memories. She lived life with zest, positivity, happiness, and a joyful spirit that touched everyone who knew her.
Kuky was preceded in death by her husband, George Nutter; daughter Gayle Nutter (Cumin); and son Arthur “AC” Nutter. She is survived by her daughter Nena Falkenstein; son Alan “Keith” Nutter and wife Gale; daughter-in-law Jan Nutter; along with 12 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
She leaves behind a remarkable legacy of love and a family that will continue for generations. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A memorial service will be held at Evergreen Memorial on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 12:30 p.m.
