Kay Bloomquist passed away on Oct. 21, 2024, in Burns, Oregon, at the age of 81. Kay was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, leaving behind a legacy of her love of Jesus, her kindness and her beacon of light to all who knew her.
Born on Dec. 31, 1942, in Pasadena, California, Kay spent most of her adult life in Washington and Oregon, where she touched the lives of her family, friends and community with her warmth and generosity.
Kay is preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Catherine Shuster; her former spouse, Franklin (Dale) Simmons; and her son Matthew Peru. She is survived by her husband, Gordon Bloomquist, of Burns, Oregon; her children, Mark Peru, of Troy, Montana, Rebecca (Brian) Taylor, of Vancouver, Washington, and Tara (Joshua) Nathan, of Ridgefield, Washington; and her stepchildren, Rebecca (Jeff) Lawson, of Battle Ground, Washington, Sharon (Dan) Doornink, of Spokane, Washington, Deniece (Doug) Pfeif, of Sumas, Washington, Mike Simmons, of Vancouver, Washington, and Craig (Linda) Simmons, of Portland, Oregon; and her sister, Lynda Shrewsbury, of Spokane, Washington.
Kay’s family also includes 20 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends and loved ones.
A memorial service to honor Kay’s life will be held on Dec. 8, 2024, at 1 p.m. at Hillcrest Church of Christ in Burns, Oregon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America (alzfdn.org), in memory of Kay's enduring spirit.
